Statement
I examine conditions such as isolation, intimacy and the mundane by creating images that are both soft and strange. Primarily work in painting and drawing, I distill photographs, painting from life, found photographs and sketches into images that often revolve around space and the object. I utilize lighting and text to add mystery and revel in the beauty and importance of the everyday by presenting both scene and subject in an unusual, dreamlike manner. Working on a smaller scale allows me to draw the viewer in and create a one-on-one interaction between viewer and canvas; by starting with this initial intimacy, the moments of unease in my work stand out in contrast. I find a lack of information to be compelling, and I create work that contains layered narratives through subtle references and details meant to unfold slowly through careful observation.
